Chains are only as strong as their links. That's why megapixels aren't the only thing that count for Lumix digital cameras. Every camera is a sum of its parts consisting of different, idealy matched components. Together, these parts are responsible for Lumix Quality and success.

LUMIX Technology

Say goodbye to complicated settings! The new LUMIX models prevent blurry, out-of-focus pictures with single-touch ease. In addition they also select the optimal shooting mode allowing you to have more fun composing great pictures and leaves the hard bit to the camera. Panasonic has cleverly combined four of its cutting edge camera technologies in Intelligent Auto mode, which means you'll never make a mistake and take superb photos - anytime, anywhere!

Intelligent Auto Mode

Panasonic's unique Intelligent Auto Mode introduces a new concept in simplicity to photography. In this mode, the camera automatically selects the most appropriate settings according to the situation. It works in conjunction with our intelligent technologies - MEGA O.I.S, Intelligent ISO Control, Face Detection and Scene Selector. It means that the camera does all the hard work leaving you to concentrate on composing that perfect shot.

Intelligent ISO Control - ANTI-BLUR FUNCTIONALITY FOR MOVING SUBJECTS

In low light conditions or when using a slow shutter speed, shaky hands are not the only potential challenge you may face. There is also "Motion Blur", a result that can occur when your subject moves, especially in low-lighting conditions. Our LUMIX models feature an Intelligent ISO mode that uses a sensor to detect movement within the frame. The intelligent ISO mode helps you to achieve blur-free shots by automatically adjusting the ISO sensitivity in accordance with the movement of the subject. This enables you to use higher shutter speeds with less motion blur when photographing subjects that tend to move a lot, such as children, pets, sports, etc. In Scene Mode LUMIX digital cameras offer a High Sensitivity Mode that uses the pixel-mixed read-out method of the CCD (Charged Couple Device) to raise the ISO 1600 in normal shooting mode, minimising motion blur and preventing resolution degradation to capture clear shots in dim lights without a flash.

ISO Control works by using 4 areas that detect whether the subject in each area is moving or not, and each area can calculate speed of the motion of the subject. According to the maximum speed of the subject among 4 areas, Venus Engine III increases ISO sensitivity and shutter speed. As a result, subject movement can be automatically stopped. If the subject is not moving, Venus Engine III does not increase ISO and shutter speed.

Face Detection - INSTANTLY SELECTS OPTIMAL FOCUS AND EXPOSURE

This smart new system helps the camera to recognise a human face and adjusts AF/AE accordingly. It allows portrait photos to be taken effortlessly. Up to 15 human faces can be recognised simultaneously and courtesy of the Face Tracking tool, automatically re-adjusts the settings if any of the subjects' positions change, which is perfect for group shots.

The quick AF system allows the camera to start focusing on the subject automatically even without pressing the shutter button halfway to get the best result out of any photo opportunity. The AE system optimizes the exposure settings to capture faces clearly, adjusting the brightness of the face properly and correctly enabling you to capture more instantaneous photo opportunities.

MEGA O.I.S. (Optical Image Stabilizer) - TAKING HAND-SHAKE OUT OF THE PICTURE

It is virtually impossible, when holding the camera by hand, to capture clear photos using a single-lens reflex 35mm camera with a telephoto lens. Hand-Shake (the natural movement of hands at rest) is by far the biggest single cause of blurry shots. All LUMIX digital cameras help solve this problem with an advanced optical image stabilizing system called MEGA O.I.S. Football players across the pitch, a child on a school stage, a bird high in a tree - LUMIX brings all these within reach. And because you don't need a tripod, you're always ready when a sudden photo opportunity arises.

This system was uses built-in gyrosensors to detect even tiny camera movements and then shifts a lens in the opposite direction to compensate. The system is completely optical - it does not affect the CCD or image processing - so you can receive sharp, clear images without deterioration. This happens so quickly and precisely, you won't even notice it. LUMIX, insist on using advanced optical system. The reason was simple: With optical systems, the image is not electronically processed so there is minimal degradation and higher quality.

MEGA O.I.S. even improves night time shooting, making it possible to take clear photos using a slower shutter speed instead of a flash. The key benefit of the MEGA O.I.S. is that it's not just for telephoto shots. It helps make every shot clear and beautiful. As MEGA O.I.S compensates for handshake, it allows you to reduce the shutter speed to more than three steps below the conventionally-accepted hand-shake limit which is calculated as 1/focal length (one divided by the focal length). MEGA O.I.S helps you to capture high-quality, clear images in a wide range of shooting situations such as: sharper zoom shots at lower shutter speeds, night shots, indoor shots, self-portraits and much more.

Intelligent Scene Selector - SCENE DETECTION

When the LUMIX digital camera is in iA mode, the intelligent Scene Selector senses the ambient conditions and automatically selects either Scenery, Portrait, Macro, Night Portrait or Night Scenery mode accordingly. It intuitively also selects other advanced image settings also, ensuring that you receive beautiful results every time you shoot, no matter what the conditions. With the LUMIX intelligent Scene Selector, you will discover that photography is easier than ever to enjoy!

Venus Engine III - SHARP, CLEAR EDGES FOR SMOOTHER, CRISPER IMAGES

The Venus Engine LSI, we improved diagonal resolution by 50% over earlier models by extracting luminance signals from all of the pixels - red, green and blue. And the Venus Engine III even goes a step further. By adding the luminance signal from the green pixels in areas with horizontal or vertical lines, we have raised horizontal or vertical resolution by 10% compared to the previous engine while preserving the superb diagonal resolution. The result is fine, detailed image rendering with no colour bleeding.

Chromatic aberration in the telephoto images is also corrected
Chromatic aberration occurs due to different colour wavelengths. Magnified chromatic aberration appears as colour shifts at the image edges. This becomes more prominent at greater focal distances, so correcting it is a key to capturing sharp ultra-telephoto shots. With wide-angle lenses, the light tends to be less intense at the image periphery, and thus image quality is lower. This is true of all lenses, no matter how precisely they are manufactured. The Venus Engine III incorporates technology that minimizes this distortion to deliver the finest images possible.

Superior noise reduction
Luminance noise and chromatic noise are reduced separately in the Venus Engine III, before and after signal processing. Both fine and coarse noise are minimized to produce beautiful, clear pictures from low to high ISO settings.

The Venus Engine III further improves the high-speed, consecutive, full-resolution shooting performance of its popular predecessor.

Shooting interval 0.3 sec minimum *
The Venus Engine III reduces the shooting interval (the time you have to wait between shots) to the shortest time yet. Snap off shot after shot without waiting. With this new level of responsiveness, you never miss a once-in-a-lifetime photo opportunity while waiting for your camera to process the previous shot.

Mega Burst - CONSECUTIVE SHOOTING

Keep on shooting until the memory card is full***. The Unlimited Consecutive Shooting function*** lets you keep on shooting until the memory card is full. You can take a series of shots and then choose the one you like best and delete the rest.

Leica Dc Lens - LEICA DC VARIO-ELMARIT AND LECIA DC VARIO-SUMMICRON LENSES

Both of these advanced lens systems include several aspherical lenses to compensate for spherical aberration. During an advanced multi-coating process, a special layer is applied to the lens' surface to help prevent fogging caused by flare and ghosts.

28mm Wide-Angle Shooting - 28MM WIDE ANGLE LEICA DC VARIO-ELMARIT LENS

The 28mm wide angle reproduces perfectly the width and depth when shooting landscapes and architecture and is ideal for shooting group portraits in small places. The following LUMIX models provide you with this fantastic 28mm wide-angle shooting capabilities: TZ2, TZ3, FZ18, FX100, FX55, FX33 and the LX2.

High Optical Zoom

The LUMIX FZ and TZ series feature a LEICA lens with a remarkable optical zoom** not hindering the small lightweight and easy-to-handle cameras. Panasonic's Extra Optical Zoom function magnifies images providing you with an increase of the total zoom power and minimising deterioration by utilising the centre part of the high resolution CCD.

Large and Brillaint LCD Monitor

The LCD monitor is the information and control of each LUMIX. At a diagonal with of 2.5 Inches (6.5 cm) or even 3 inches (7.6) cm it lets you check your pictures quickly and safely. Thanks to increased resolutions, overviews with up to 25 mini-images or the practical calendar function are no longer a problem. The calendar view shows a monthly compilation of images with each day's first picture. The new travel date functions in some models make it easier to remember when and where you took what photo. Together with the date and time, they provide a description of the travel day and the moment the picture was taken.

Power LCD Illumination

Even in bright sunlight, the LCD monitor is easy to read and view. And if you want, simply click on the button to increase the brightness by up to 40% (except for the LS and LZ series)

High Angle LCD Mode

For overhead shots, e.g. from out of a crowd or over an obstacle, the new High Angle LCD mode helps you recognise absolutely everything with its viewing angle that is visiable well below the camera.

Customised Displays

You decide what want to see on the LCD monitor when you check your pictures. Trust in our technology and concentrate and concentrate on your shot; if you want, a grid is available to help control focus and composition. You can also let the camera show you differing levels of details on the display.

Variable Aspect Ratio

Lumix cameras let you take photos in different image formats, to suit all your requirements. The choice is yours: whether it's the traditional TV 4:3 aspect ratio you prefer, the classic 3:2 photo format or today's 16:9 Wide screen and HDTV format, Lumix can cater for all tastes. With its 28 mm wide-angle zoom lens and adapted, wider CCD sensor, the Lumix LX2 produces particularly excellent 16:9 mode images, without the typical black bars. With the multi-aspect feature we enable the TZ3 and TZ2 to maintain zoom setting while changing the aspect ration. If you change from 4:3 to 16:9 you can still use the full 28mm wide angle setting.
